Community Involvement

CU Taxation

"Don't tax my credit union!" campaign is being launched at a time when the U.S. House and Senate have made broad-based tax reform a major priority. The initiative will urge lawmakers as part of any final tax reform plan to preserve the federal tax exemption credit unions receive as not-for-profit, member-owned cooperatives.

The campaign will emphasize that any tax on credit unions is really a tax on its members since credit unions are cooperatively-owned by the people they serve. If credit unions were taxed, their benefits to members and communities will be lost, and a consumer-friendly option in the financial marketplace will vanish.

Jefferson City Visit

Volunteers and First Missouri Credit Union management travel to Jefferson City to attend the Missouri Credit Union Association's annual meeting, learn more about pending Credit Union legislation and meet with elected officials.

Your credit union's not-for-profit-cooperative status makes your Credit Union different from a BANK and allows us to pass no Federal Income Tax savings on to you, our member.

As a member you can protect your credit union membership by:

• Getting involved, find out how to become a FMCU volunteer

• Tell your family, friends and neighbors about the benefits of credit union membership

• Watch for opportunity to assist

o From time to time it is important for the credit union members to let their legislators know what they want

Annual Meeting 2013

Thanks for Celebrating with US at the 87th Annual Meeting

Members enjoyed the opportunity to socialize, dine and learn more about identity theft from Detective Chris Gilyon of the St. Louis County Police Department. In addition identity theft Gilyon talked about credit card fraud and fielded questions from the audience.

President Steve Ogolin reminded members that credit unions save their members $80 million dollars a year, which may explain why bankers are once again attacking credit unions. Steve also recognized 5 employees for their years of service and dedication:

15 years of service: Mike Carter, Accounting Manager

10 years of service: Sue Kaiser, Branch Manager

10 years of service: Anita Meatte, Teller Supervisor

5 years of service: Kerri Harvell, Head Teller

5 years of service: Judy Busso, Receptionist

Through the generosity of our members and a raffle benefiting Feed My People we were able to raise more than $900. Attendance prizes were awarded and fun was had by all. FMCU would like to thank our members for their attendance and continued trust in us.
